Timed Swims & Special Workouts

Timed 500
Approximately once every four to six weeks WSU Masters will do a timed 500 yard swim. This gives participants an opportunity to measure against how they’re improving, and by how much. The club keeps records of these swims and allows swimmers to look back to see how they’ve progressed over a period of time.

The timed 500 can come at any time and is not something to be planned for. It comes as part of the regular workout.

You can see the records for the timed 500 swims by visiting the History and Records Section of this site.

Monthy 200s
During the spring semester (January–May), WSU Masters does a set of 5 x 200 yard Freestyle swims each month. The set is broken down as follows:

5 x 200 all on the same interval that allows 20-30 of seconds rest

200 #1—at a moderate pace.
200 #2—at a faster pace for time. This will be recorded and will be the time to beat for next month’s 200 #2.
200 #3—try to hold the pace that was established in #2.

200 #4—try to hold the pace that was established in #2
.
200 #5—try to hold the pace that was established in #2
.

For the next month, the goal is to beat the previous month’s #2 Swim. For example

January 5 X 200 @ 3:45
#1 @ 3:15
#2 @ 3:10
#3 @ 3:09
#4 @ 3:11
#5 @ 3:10

February 5 x 200 @ 3:40
#1 @ 3:12
#2 @ 3:08 beating 3:10 from number two in January
#3 @ 3:08
#4 @ 3:07
#5 @ 3:05

March 5 x 200 @ 3:30
#1 @ 3:10
#2 @ 3:02 beating 3:08 from number two in February
#3 @ 3:00
#4 @ 2:59
#5 @ 3:02

You can see the records for the monthly 200s by visiting the History and Records Section of this site.

Holiday Workouts

WSU Masters often runs workouts on holidays, such as the day after Thanksgiving, January 1, Memorial Day, Labor Day, July Fourth, etc. Check the schedule page for details on these swims. Often these swims are more casual, as participants are in a vacation mode. Many of these swims are start a bit latter, and run a bit longer.
